Apriva BETA Driver 03.21.11 Instructions for RIM 8800, 8310, and 8830

General Overview

The Apriva BETA driver 03.21.11 is designed to work with all RIM models listed on the Apriva website including now the RIM 8800, 8310, and 8830.  In order to use the Apriva Readers with these devices requires flashing the Readers using the specific instruction below.

Flashing the Apriva Reader for use with a RIM 8800 and 8310 using RIM OS 4.0 & 4.2

1. If the RIM handheld listed above is using RIM OS 4.0 & 4.2, the user must use a different model RIM handheld to update the Reader.  For example;

a. User has a RIM 8800 using RIM OS 4.0 & 4.2.  He/she must use another RIM handheld such as a 	RIM 7290, 8700, etc. to flash the Apriva Reader with the latest firmware.  Once flashed 	(updated with the latest Apriva Firmware), the user can then use the updated Apriva Reader with the RIM 8800 or 8310.

b. The lowest version of Apriva Firmware that will work with the RIM 8800 and 8310 is 	03.21.10.  Again, the Apriva Reader must be flash with atleast 03.21.10 in order to work with these models.  The user can use desktop manager to install the Apriva Device Utility version 03.21.10 or 03.21.11 onto the RIM 8800 or 8310, but cannot flash the Reader using these 	models.  Flashing the Apriva Readers must be done with another earlier model of RIM.

Flashing the Apriva Reader for use with a RIM 8830 using RIM OS 4.0 & 4.2

1. The RIM 8830 using RIM OS 4.0 & 4.2 can be used with the Apriva BT100 or BT200 Reader.  The user should install the Apriva Driver 03.21.11 onto the RIM 8830 using Desktop Manager.  The Apriva Reader however must be flashed using another RIM model such as a RIM 7290 or 8700.  For example;

a. User has a RIM 8830 using RIM OS 4.2.  He/she must use another RIM handheld such as a 		RIM 7290, 8700, etc. to flash the Apriva Reader with the Apriva 03.21.11 driver.  This means the user must install 03.21.11 onto a 7290, 8700, etc. and then flash the Reader. Once flashed, the user can then use the updated Apriva Reader with the RIM 8830.
